My father took a turn overeacted to PS / 2 keyboard without the computer again ... They can even do harm, a comuputer? Although I do not think that is dangerous for everyone.

You should be hot swappable. Note: I said it should be.
The best option if you know something "hot swappable" running on the computer, remove the location and restart.
It can cause a small problem with the circuit, because the board have no electricity in that port. It has spoiled it a few times, but safe is safe. There is a reason that the port is not hot swappable.
